eSIM not working
in Japan?
Choose what you see. Get the next step, then keep it with you.
First: keep the installed eSIM. Use trusted Wi-Fi to check your provider’s instructions before changing settings.
What’s happening?
Check compatibility before buying again.
- Confirm the exact phone model is supported by your eSIM provider and that the phone can use another carrier’s plan.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and follow the installation method provided with your purchase. Keep the exact error message.
- If setup still fails, contact the provider. Ask whether the activation code can be reused before scanning again or removing anything.
For iPhone carrier locks, ask your current carrier. Buying another travel plan does not remove a lock.

Check the line and the plan.
- Make sure the installed travel eSIM is enabled and selected for mobile data.
- Check that the purchased plan covers Japan and is within its validity period.
- Check your provider’s supported network instructions. Try airplane mode on and off, then restart if needed. If still disconnected, contact the provider over Wi-Fi.
A lack of signal can have several causes. This checklist does not identify a network outage.

Check which SIM is providing data.
- Select the travel eSIM as the mobile data line and check remaining data in your provider’s app or account.
- Use the roaming and APN settings specified for that exact plan. Do not copy a setting from a different provider.
- If it still fails, contact your provider with the symptom, device model and what you checked. Keep your installed eSIM unless support tells you otherwise.
On Android, roaming controls vary and may affect more than one SIM. Check the scope before enabling roaming. Turning off your home line can interrupt calls and texts.

Your message, ready to show.
Ask nearby staff for Wi-Fi so you can contact your eSIM provider. They may not be able to fix the plan itself.

I can’t connect to the internet. Could you help me find Wi-Fi so I can contact my provider?
Choose a symptom to save a standalone HTML card. Open the downloaded file before you lose your connection. A screenshot works too.
Choose a backup that fits the problem.
Use available Wi-Fi to save your route or contact support first. A replacement eSIM will not fix an incompatible or carrier-locked phone.
Data used up or plan expired?
Compare an extension from your current provider with a new Japan plan. A replacement is relevant only if your phone is compatible and can use the new carrier’s plan.
Japan Wireless has a separate eSIM service. Check device compatibility, data conditions, activation timing, validity and the total price for your remaining trip before buying. Use its current plan details; we have not tested its speed.
