A late flight needs a counter-specific pickup plan. Check when you can reach the named counter after immigration and baggage—not just when the plane lands. If collection is uncertain, arrange an accepted delivery location and a separate way to get there.

The flight lands shortly before closing
The landing time is not the collection time. Immigration, baggage and walking to another terminal can consume the remaining window. Ask the provider to confirm a realistic arrangement instead of assuming an airport counter remains open for your flight.
There are several WiFi counters at the airport
Your package is not necessarily available at all of them. Use the name and location in the confirmation. The company selling the rental and the counter handing it over may have different names; showing your order at a random rental desk can waste the remaining collection window.
Hotel delivery looks easier
Ask the hotel first and use matching reservation details. Japan Wireless publishes hotel delivery instructions, but its rental guide excludes Airbnb delivery. A self-check-in apartment without a staffed desk therefore needs a confirmed alternative; do not treat all accommodation as a hotel.
I have already missed the counter
Contact the rental provider using the order reference. Ask where the device is now and what collection or delivery change is available. Keep the original booking until you understand any charges or refund conditions; a second rental can create two bills without solving the first.

Can I choose pickup after midnight?
Treat the date carefully: 00:30 belongs to the next calendar day. Write the full local date and time when contacting the provider. Check which rental start date is being charged.
Can I order after landing?
Only rely on a pickup that the provider confirms. Japan Wireless lists last-minute ordering, but that is not a guarantee of stock or an open counter at your current terminal.
What is a sensible connection backup?
An eligible eSIM or your home carrier’s suitable roaming option can cover the transfer before collection. Otherwise save essential directions offline and identify airport information help. Do not buy an eSIM for a locked or unsupported phone.
